Slideshow Test

I’ve been testing out some new slideshow software, and I think I really like it! Here’s a short snippet from a recent family shoot:

Big Update For Box Office Baby!

I just completed a big update for BoxOfficeBaby.com. I added several new designs, bringing the total to 37 (in both birth announcement and birthday party versions, so really it’s 74 :) ). I also added a new category of designs – Tech! Have you ever seen a tech birth announcement before? Me neither :) But I thought it would be cool to take some inspiration from some of the social networking/tech interests out there.

Here are a couple of the new ones:

Pretty cool! I also hope to have some retail-related announcements soon!

So if you are going to have kids, or already have them with a birthday coming up, check out BoxOfficeBaby.com.

Trevor's Birthday Invite

Trevor’s invites have gone out (except for people in the neighborhood), and so I decided to post it.

I am showing the image from the card without the bottom (which includes all the details.)

This design (minus the baby) is part of a new batch of Box Office Baby card designs that will be coming out shortly. And if you are a neighborhood friend of Trevor, pretend you didn’t see this! :)

iPhone.

Ok so the plan was to not wait in line for a stupid new iPhone 3G. However, at some point on Friday, I happened to find myself inside Barton Creek Mall in front of the Apple Store because I…needed an oil change. Anyways, the line was crazy, and I thought there was no way I would stand in line there for hours on end, wondering if they would be out of phones before I got to the front.

Then, a cool Apple store employee named Jessica got in line. She had just finished her shift at the store (starting around 6am I believe). She gave me the heads up that there were plenty of phones inside and that I should have no problem. So I decided to stay.

5 and a half hours later, I had a new phone (but not an oil change). I have to say that I really like it, and I’ve already downloaded a couple of applications that I really enjoy!

Today, I came across this parody of the new iPhone and thought you might like to see it.

Updates, Concerts, and Lenses

Updates have been a little slow on the DB. I’ve been working on some new product ideas that I hope to launch this summer, but there’s a lot of creative work involved!

In the meantime, I am headed to San Antonio tonight to see Van Halen! Rock on! :) I’ll probably be the youngest guy there and maybe the only one without a mullet, but I don’t care :) I’ve never seen them with Dave before, so it will be fun.

On a different topic, every now and again I rent camera lenses to play with. Sometimes they end up being purchased later, but it’s a good idea to try them out first. ZipLens and LensRentals are the two places that I’ve used, and the service is great. The lenses show up in great condition with all of the necessary return packaging. If you ever end up renting at ZipLens, tell Lee I said ‘hello’!

This week’s rental is the fabulous Canon 50mm 1.2 L. I believe it came out a year or so ago, and it’s a great lens. For all of you non-photographer types, think of it like this: it lets you make one part of the image sharp, and everything else dramatically blurry. :)

Here are 2 test shots I took today:

Lisa filling up her water bottle getting ready for a run (and it’s 40 degrees outside):

Our cat Harley relaxing on the floor (and there’s no shortage of opportunities to take this shot):

The Top 10 Myths About Entrepreneurship

For Friday, I am veering off into business speak, so bear with me :)

Scott Shane, one of the popular authors when it comes to Entrepreneurship, just wrote a guest post on Guy Kawasaki’s Blog titled The Top 10 Myths About Entrepreneurs. Some of them make sense, and others were a surprise.

One myth is that most entrepreneurs start businesses in attractive industries. According to Scott, ‘most entrepreneurs are picking industries in which they are most likely to fail.’ For example, Scott says that you have an 840 times better chance of making the Inc. top 500 companies list if you start a computer company vs. opening a hotel!

I wish there was somewhere to go to read about how various industries perform. If you know of such a site/listing, please leave a link in the comments!
