Updates, Concerts, and Lenses

Updates have been a little slow on the DB. I’ve been working on some new product ideas that I hope to launch this summer, but there’s a lot of creative work involved!

In the meantime, I am headed to San Antonio tonight to see Van Halen! Rock on! :) I’ll probably be the youngest guy there and maybe the only one without a mullet, but I don’t care :) I’ve never seen them with Dave before, so it will be fun.

On a different topic, every now and again I rent camera lenses to play with. Sometimes they end up being purchased later, but it’s a good idea to try them out first. ZipLens and LensRentals are the two places that I’ve used, and the service is great. The lenses show up in great condition with all of the necessary return packaging. If you ever end up renting at ZipLens, tell Lee I said ‘hello’!

This week’s rental is the fabulous Canon 50mm 1.2 L. I believe it came out a year or so ago, and it’s a great lens. For all of you non-photographer types, think of it like this: it lets you make one part of the image sharp, and everything else dramatically blurry. :)

Here are 2 test shots I took today:

Lisa filling up her water bottle getting ready for a run (and it’s 40 degrees outside):

Our cat Harley relaxing on the floor (and there’s no shortage of opportunities to take this shot):

Thanks for the info about the rental sites. I got an SLR for Christmas and have been reading up on the different lenses. Maybe I’ll talk John into renting one to play with soon.

You came to San Antonio and we didn’t even go get a beer? :)

Sorry Brian! The schedule went like this:

    4:30, drive to San Antonio.
    7:30, pick up Chris.
    8:00, rock out.
11:00, drop off Chris, drive home.
    2:00a, crawl into bed.

But I promise to make a return trip and we’ll hang out!
