We’re enjoying some time in Hawaii for our big summer trip. Two days ago we braved a 1:30am wake up time to head to the top of Mt. Haleakala to catch a glimpse of the most amazing sunrise we have ever seen! We were there with about 30 new friends as we caught the sun peeking out at around 5:45 am. Afterwards, we hiked for about an hour and began the drive back to the hotel. It was an amazing experience, and I'm looking forward to creating a nice wall print of this image (or one of the other 50 or so that I shot :) ).
Today was the first time I ever did a VR thing, and I got to do it with the whole family! It’s called The Void (www.thevoid.com). It was a Star Wars themed event, and was amazing! Basically we were rebel spies wearing stormtrooper costumes! I won’t give away the story, but it takes place in the Rogue One era. There are locations throughout the country - if there’s one near you, I highly recommend it!
I checked out the Laguna Pageant of the Masters art show yesterday, and tonight @lisadoggett and I are here to watch the show, where actors reproduce famous art pieces live. So excited!

We are in Laguna Beach for a few days to kick off our summer vacation. Whenever I get a chance to come here, I’m always drawn to the beautiful trees. They just look so perfect on the top, and the branches are beautiful too. In Texas, we have great oak trees, but these are something quite different. Does anyone know what kind of tree this is?

I’ve been experimenting with new ideas to create art, and this one is a mix of painting and photography (and hey, that might be exactly my niche :) ). This is a single-shot - no Photoshop (just some saturation/contrast adjustments in Lightroom). ⠀ To create this image, I cut a stencil and painted it with different background colors. I then back-lit it and sprayed water/fake fog/dry ice smoke while taking various photos. Once I get the look dialed in I just keep taking shots until I’m happy with one of them. ⠀ The cool thing about this technique is that I can see it being used for a bunch of different things! I’ve already used it with a company’s logo for an art piece, and I plan to get more intricate with my stencil cutting too. Mickey was my obvious first series :) I’ll be sharing more images soon. ⠀ What do you think? Something you like? Something I can improve upon?

Catherine and Darrell have not only helped create some incredible cards, they've also won the annual fan-favorite "Refrigerator Trophy" contest 2 years in a row. Will it be a three-peat this year? We'll see, with their incredible 2017 card!
Today's Christmas card was created for my longest-running family, Amanda and Joel. They're son Grant has been a great model over the last few years and this year he pulled off a perfect Grinch. Or Grantch :)
